OPPORTUNITIES

Interested in working at STV? You may be surprised that it’s not all about qualifications, but rather often about job experience. The media is such a fast moving and constantly changing business, that instead of studying theory, you should start working as a camera man, producer or in the graphics department in a small company, perhaps after an internship, so you get familiar with the contemporary technology and methods.

That being said a degree will show your future employers you have been instructed with the basic information and that you are an ambitious, hard-working person. This is especially important should your occupation of choice be that of a journalist, news anchor or weatherman. If this is the case, our guide informed us that besides studying for example journalism, it’s highly recommended to also earn a degree in politics or also a subject like geography, to have a deeper understanding of international affairs or meteorology.

Just keep in mind, an approach restricted solely to theory, may leave your knowledge outdated.

The media is a complex business; it offers a wide variety of job fields. The more obvious ones are presenters and reporters, but these are just the face of the company. Camera and sound are present at every set. Producers, directors and people from the graphics department take care of video clips, make sure shows are as visually appealing as possible and are constantly in contact with the people on camera, telling them what is being transmitted to the public. Online journalists and correspondents are constantly on the lookout for the most important news and best stories. Engineers take care of technical equipment, whereas data analysts see what appeals to the viewer the most. Every company is in need of a finance department and legal advisors, support and men and woman that work in the reception, like our guide. The list is endless, makeup artists, human resource people and dozens of specialists for each field.
